HOW TO HOST · 5 MIN READ
How to host a printable escape room.
Three steps: print the case, prepare the clue envelopes, hand over the START packet. Most Clue Harbor nights are ready in 10–15 minutes.
- Setup
- 10–15 minutes
- Play
- 45–60 minutes
- Players
- 2–6 detectives
- Host role
- Pack envelopes · hold hints
Do this in order
- 1
Print the case
Print the Player Pack and Host Guide at 100% on US Letter paper. Colour is recommended; every puzzle stays usable in grayscale.
- 2
Prepare the envelopes
Follow the Host Guide packing map. Fill seven envelopes or fold packets. Keep solutions and hint cards out of the player pile.
- 3
Start the clock
Gather 2–6 players, hand over the START packet, and set a gentle 45–60 minute window. Stay nearby with hints if the table stalls.
Host tips that keep the night moving
- Use hint cards when the table stalls — not before anyone is stuck
- Previous players make excellent hosts for a new group
- One solution per case — best replayed with fresh detectives
- End with certificates so the reveal feels finished
Quick answers
Can the host also play?
Ideally no for the first run — the Host Guide has spoilers. After you know the case, you can host for a new group.
What if we get stuck?
Each case includes hint cards. Offer the next hint only when the group asks or clearly stalls.
